Testimonials to SAA classes!
Learning to Make a difference ONE Child, ONE Family at a
time!
For those of you who have not taken
the online classes and are weighing
the cost, I can absolutely guarantee that it is well worth it.
You will get so much information packed into your skull in a 7-week
period that you will (a) feel confident about advocating for your child
in their school, and, if you haven't already, (b) join the ever-growing
list of people in the We Love Donna Club. Even if you are not
having issues with your school now, you never know what can happen in
the future, either with the stability of your child, or a change in
school or change in school staff - these classes will help you be
prepared no matter what the circumstance AND they will help you learn
so much more about your child... Beth
The online
classes will help you
tremendously in your advocating skills
and knowledge. After taking PA101 last time, I'm looking very
forward to this second class. I'm even going to IEP meetings
starting this fall without the special Ed attorney and the parent
advocate. I feel very confident from what I've learned, that
should the school violate Matthew's IEP and not cooperate, I will call
the attorney but not until I've thoroughly exhausted the high school,
special ed director and district with lots of paper trail and
knowledge! I am a warrior, but I speak kindly and with confident
knowledge!
I am a single
parent living on 100%
VA disability and raising a son
with bp, etc. My budget is very tight but I will always find a way to
pay for one of Donna's online classes! They are that
good!!!!Teresa
These classes probably saved my
child's life. School was a major
stressor for her. I was getting nowhere trying to get the school
to listen to me and understand. I was helpless, and becoming
hopeless. I watched my daughter slowly slip away from me.
She ended up hospitalized; at this point one of my requests was
answered with these words: "all children experience periods of
struggle, this does not constitute a disability". I was just a
few weeks into the first parent advocacy class, but was able to use
what I learned as I went along. I got her progressive
accommodations for the rest of the year, and she will be starting a new
program in September with all of the supports that she needs built in.
Were it not for this class, I have no
idea where we would be right
now. I was really at the lowest point I have ever been seeing my
poor baby struggle so; the misunderstanding and comments made by the
teacher really constitutes abuse, and I had no feet to stand on until I
knew and understood her rights.
Knowledge is power... Wendy
I took the PA101
class and the
information and the way it was taught
was absolutely instrumental in helping me, 1) understand more about the
laws and how they apply to my children, and 2) gave me more confidence
to go into these meetings with my head held high knowing full well I
have what it takes to get things done, and 3) I am now a proud parent
advocate
I am probably one
of the most
computer illiterate people around and
this class was easy to navigate and learn in. Not to mention the
camaraderie) that I felt with my class mates. I have signed up
for the second class and if there is a third and a fourth I will sign
up for those as well. I consider the expense a wise investment
into my children’s present and future in education as well as in life
period. If I could recommend anything to new parents or old
parents....it would be to take these classes and gain the knowledge
that you need to advocate in a professional, matter of fact, business
like fashion!!!!
I am very excited
about the next
class as trying to understand test
data and interpret it is difficult for me. I so hated statistics
in college!!!!! Anyhow...that is my opinion....for me these
classes are just as important as any other part of treatment for my
kids.....just not a negotiable topic!!!! Kara
Online class is great!
Speaking as someone who is just
finishing the online class
Introduction to Educational Advocacy
The online class is great for
education about your child's rights and
boiling down the complicated laws & procedures surrounding the
school issues into a format that helps you to create an action plan. It
provides a layman's term presentation of the information in a logical
order, some practical exercises to create documents (vision, letters)
you will want to us in helping your son, and loads of expertise from
the instructor.
An unexpected benefit... in taking
the course I have learned even more
from the experiences that the other parents in the class have shared.
There were parents who have been working with the schools for several
years on behalf of their child(ren) all the way to those who are just
beginning that journey. That community has helped me so much in my own
learning process.
The investment in the class has been
so worthwhile in giving me the
knowledge and strength to more effectively advocate for my child at
school. It has already paid for itself at least 10 times over for me.
